The Terroirs

Our vines can be found along the famous Route des Vins d'Alsace, halfway between Strasbourg and Colmar, in 5 villages reputed for their crus:

  • Andlau,
  • Blienschwiller,
  • Dambach-la-Ville,
  • Eichoffen
  • and Epfig


The domaine vinifies the seven Alsatian varieties; Riesling (50%), Gewurztraminer (25%), Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Muscat d'Alsace and Sylvaner. All issued from our own vineyards, in the most natural way possible. We do not proclaim to make biological wine, but we do limit the use of sulfur, etc. to a strict minimum and accompany the terroir, the vines and the wine to bring themselves to their potential most naturally.


Wine for winelovers :

The omnipresence of Riesling in the Alsace is due to the great number of terroirs extremely well suited to bringing the varietal to its full potential. We are lucky enough to have access to 3 out of 25 Grand Gru terroirs particularly suited for Riesling, all in Andlau: the Kastelberg, the only black shale terroir of the region, the Wiebelsberg, red sandstone and the Moenchberg, which has a particular marl and limestone soil.
Add to that an exceptional Grand Cru in Blienschwiller, the Winzenberg, a granite terroir, which gives our Gewurztraminer an exceptional note of maturity.
Wines of these terroirs express the identity of their geological roots in an exceptional manner, and have to undergo rigourous selection procedures each year to be granted the Grand Cru title.


Wine to please, for those special moments:

In exceptional years, the varietals Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer can develop a fungus known as 'noble rot' (botrytis cinerea). Through a prolonged riping period and highly selective sorting of attained berries, this can allow for sweet wines of infinite subtlety called Vendange Tardive and Selection de Grains Nobles, with tremendous aging potential.

Wines of joy and friendship :

Before the beginning of the traditional harvest, Pinot Blanc or Pinot Noir are harvested for the production of a great sparkling wine, Crémant d'Alsace. After 15 months of bottle fermentation, it is completed with a liqueur giving birth to a wine of amazing finesse, delicate body and the most elegant mousse.

The Classics :

The Alsace region has the advantage of being suited for a great set of (mostly white) varietals, each with its particular qualities. This has led to a collection of monocépage wines, in contrast to many other regions of France

From the dashing and smooth Pinot Blanc or Sylvaner, to the opulent bodied and spicy Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris, all the way to the the mythical and noble king Riesling, without forgetting the rare Muscat d'Alsace or so appreciated Pinot Noir, all estate wines respond to a philosophy of high quality which, of course, starts in the vineyard.

Thus, since 1981, the estate wines are made without insecticides or chemical fertilizers, and environmental considerations have been taken into account well before the hour, giving birth each year to increasingly natural wines. In the parcels, a controlled grass cover provides excellent soil structure, increasing microbial activity and limiting erosion. The grape vines are happy and the average age of the vines is 40 years, with plots of more than 60 years. Of course, all the grapes are picked by hand and pressed gently to obtain a highly elegant aromatic extraction. The juice of such healthy, natural grapes does not need additional yeast for its fermentation. The wines are made in oak casks in our cellars, where they stay more often than not until just before the next harvest to be bottled unsing exclusively natural corks.
